Overview

Arrowhead is Uniform Sierra’s indoor tactical drone system. It allows operators to enter dangerous indoor environments — a collapsed building, an active shooter situation — and clear them without putting additional human lives in danger. Primary customers are police departments, departments of corrections, and SWAT teams.

The team was always looking for ways to give users more usable data, so they could approach dangerous situations with a total and decisive information advantage. This project aimed to integrate a computer vision system into Arrowhead that highlights things like people, weapons, and closed doors in the operator’s video feed in real time, with the option to toggle it on and off. The goal was to let operators devote more focus to flying the aircraft without simultaneously searching the video for points of interest.

Limiting factors

  1. Aircraft size and weight are critical to keep as small and low as possible
  2. Limited compute
